Sports-related eye injuries

As the weather gets warmer, outdoor activities and spots ramp up again. For some of our adolescent patients, that may include paintball, BB guns, and other "non-powder" guns. This article from a few months ago details the risk of sports-related eye injuries. Not surprisingly, these guns are responsible for nearly half of the most serious sports and recreation eye injuries.

The American Academy of Pediatrics has safety recommendations for children who use these guns. Children and adults should wear eye protection WHENEVER they use these guns, not just when aiming at other people (paintball, for instance).
